Q: Fastest/Best Way to Re-Populate Project Media?

Soniclight wrote on 1/4/2008, 10:51 PM
A while back, I revamped my system which included moving whole directories to new disks. Of course, older projects now have all blanks in every track (apart from text stuff)...

Doing search and replace on every element would be hair-pulling, climbing-up-walls tedious.

--- Any intuitive, better, perhaps script or ? way to tell the projects to look in a drive and re-poppulate themselves?
I vaguely remember some software or something that could help with this, but I sure don't want to pay through the nose just to put my project back in order.

Thanks.

From memory you should only need to 'find' the first missing piece of media and Vegas then gives you the option of using the rest of the media from the same place. Of course if you've moved your media all over the place then you might have a problem on your hands.

Thanks, Bob. I haven't moved things around into the wild - I've kept them all in the original directories, I've simply put them all on a different drive. In fact, the drive letter (D) is also so the same, but the root directory structure is a bit different.

Changing the root back to the exact original could be a solution, but it would kind of mess up the new/better organization of things.

I'll have to weigh the pros and cons of what you mentioned and the latter. Probably no way to get around some tediousness on the former.

If you haven't changed the File Names or the Folder Names, then restoring the media is as simple as a few clicks.

Vegas will ask where one file is, you tell it to SEARCH for the missing file, and then point it toward the new drive. Once it finds that, it will find everything else in that folder. This process will repeat for each folder, but that is a fairly fast process, unless your project files are scattered over lots of folders.

Even then, you're only talking about a few minutes to restore the media. I think Vegas has one of the better "file restoration" searches out there. Because of it, I'm not afraid to reorganize my media over time, which I've done several times when my Virgo Moon kicks in!

Thanks, I'm just playing chicken with myself right now on all of this, it's most likely not as daunting as it first looks. I've just never done it for an entire project..

Freaking myself out for nuttin' (procrastating, too :)

Oranizin' streaks: that's also a Cappy (Capricorn) trait - lol.

Sonic, don't over think it. Vegas will do it for you. Just point it to the new drive and say Yes To All.

Thanks. I'm still procrastinating due to other life priorities. But I'll just do it and it won't be so bad.

Well, did one, it wasn't all that hard after all :)
