Q: "SQL instance SONY_MEDIAMGR2 is not valid"

I haven't been using VP8 for a while yet this error keeps showing up regularly in XP Home Events. I only re-noticed it because I was playing 15 min. ArtBeats tutorial .mov in Quicktime 7.4.5. and my system froze

QT may or may not be related since the warning error is listed several times a day.

Well, no-one replied so I figured I'd try something -- which seems to have worked so far: I set all SQL Services in XP Admin to Automatic (some were on Manual).

(Yeah, this thread is kind of a pathetic monologue, but maybe useful to someone at some point :)
