Q10 + Vegas

this battle never ends with this thing.

So here's the just of it.

In Vegas, I can play a limited number of tracks with effects no problem.
I opened up a project I was working on a few months ago (with the Delta44 - and I had no problems at all with it...it ran smooth as a babys butt), and immediately tons of pops and clicks in the audio.
Boosted the buffer size in the Q10 control panel to 512, with ASIO Turbo activated (I dont even know what this does, but it makes the delay time less so I clicked it, i'm using vegas 5 too, by the way). With this, I get maybe a pop/click in one playback of a song.

I recorded a new project the other day, just 2 mics at a time, no clicks or pops - I'm worried that If I start recording 2-4 mics at a time, with 10+ audio playing back as well, that I'll have clicks/pops in the recording (which I CANNOT have) - will this happen?

Should I keep boosting the buffer size higher? How high is too high? With TURBO MODE and 512 selected, 11ms latency. Without TURBO MODE, it's 20ms. And, I dont REALLY even know if turbo mode is working with vegas!

So another big problem, I started working on one of those projects (this time ALL AUDIO...also never had ANY problems with the delta44), had an effect or 2 or 3 on all 15 of the tracks. No big problem yet. I added Ozone 2 DX to the master channel (never used to be a problem). Whole computer stops responding, audio never stops playback, extreme amount of clicks/pops, its just going crazy. I have to turn the sound down quick (its lound and annoying and sounds like death), and then press the reset button on my box to force restart the computer. WHAT!?!? what is my problem here???

AND in the meantime, I STILL have this problem:
I get pretty choppy playback from anything opened in windows media player, winamp, and also in fruity loops. In FL, the only way to make it bearable to listen to is by putting the Direct Sound buffer size IN FRUITY LOOPS up to the MAX. What else can I do in the Aardvark control panel to fix the rest of these issues (there are direct sound buffer size thing, but it seems like it has no effect on anything)?

Aardvark is no longer a company apparently, so I really don't know who to get help from. haha. direct me anywhere, i'm desperate.
help, please. ha.
THANKS

Sounds to me like you you've got something munching up CPU cycles. Have you tried Task Manager to see what the CPU load is and what else is running.
I mean my 900MHz PIII Vaio yesterday managed to record two tracks of 24/48K with FXs and RT monitoring out of M-Audio F/Wire 410.
Before yesterday I'd have major probs with it cuased it seems by 2 sets of drivers trying to handle the audio. Got rid of something and voila, pristine audio. And oh yeah, that using the internal 5400 rpm drive.

If even WMP is having problems it really sounds like a dodgy mobo kind of problem. I'll never use AMD stuff BTW, not that I like having only Intel around BUT.....

I did read that some VIA chipsets did not perform well with the Q10, because of PCI throughput or something. However, my chipset was not listed so I figured I'd be ok in that department.

what does everyone think about ACPI being a problem...probably not?

Well I had to look up the delta to see what it was.

I couldn't find out what the Q10 is.

I'm guessing that the mobo has an onboard SoundMax.

So my only contribution here is that maybe disabling your onboard SoundMax (remove the software and windows will put it in "other devices" will fix it as Bob said maybe 2 sets of audio drivers are competing.

there is onboard sound, with no driver associated to it. I'll disable the Delta, and let the Q10 reign as number 1, and see if that works out.. thanks guys i'll let everyone know for sure if it gets fixed! haha.

I own a Delta 44 also. A while back, lots of users had issues with clicks, crackles and pops (and they weren't eating Rice Crispies.....) People chased all kind of demons. In most all cases, the problem was with the MAudio drivers. I thought that had been fixed but I would double check the drivers I was using first. Make sure they are the latest. However, my problems were fixed by going to an earlier driver. I use the 5.10.00.27 driver with my Delta 44.

Good luck.
