My wife uses Vegas work stations in her work. One of her clients sent them a Quicktime HD file with a .mov extension. When they try to bring it into Vegas only the audio comes in. Can this QT file be used in Vegas (8.0b)?
Vegas can work with Quicktime video, but the way it does this is to access the codecs from a Apple Quicktime install on the same machine. If she installs the latest version of Quicktime she should be able to work with that video.

The .mov extension can wrap any of a number of codecs, which may not be part of the Quicktime download. Before you spring for QT Pro, which is also no guarantee of playability for your file, it would be a good idea to check the file itself for the codec that was actually used, and proceed from there. Two free utilities that are commonly used to determine this information are called MediaInfo and GSpot.
If the file plays in Quicktime, this information can also be determined from the menu.
There seems to be a problem with the latest version of Quicktime. I was told by Sony to uninstall Vegas then install quicktime and reinstall Vegas. Been too busy to do it yet, but I have seen references to the problem in this and other fora.
