QT .vs WMV render diffs

The renders I run for broadcast quality spots are done as Quicktime .mov, but for client approval we render the same piece as a 15frame .wmv file so it's small enough to email.

Why do some elements, particularly graphics (text supers) show up in the wrong position? i.e. name super for talent moves the text with her name up out of the graphic background element.

What pixel dimensions do you use?

Some codecs choke on anything that's not a multiple of 16x16 pixels (and remember that computers use square pixels).

By "15frame" you mean 15 fps? Or literally 15 frames?

Is it the WMV that's not OK?

Do you use ProType or Grafiti for your text? If your rendered file is not exactly the same as the project properties you used to create the text, it seems to move.

To be more clear: most of my material is 16x9. So I edit to that and add text and graphics and what not. If I render a letterboxed 4x3 file, the text is way off. I think this is because in Vegas the output is more important than the project settings.

Yes it is the WMV which comes out different than the QT movie.
We use a pixel ratio of 1.212, which allows our broadcast hub to simulate widescreen by stretching the anamorphic pixels to fill a 16:9 screen.
Yes, 15 frames, is fps.

thanks.

You have to set the WMV PAR to 1.212 when rendering. That should keep the graphic elements lined up.

Another longer workaround is to render out the problem sections to a lossless codec or uncompressed and drop them back on top in the timeline, so you know exactly where they are before you render to WMV.
