Quality issue: NTSC DV template vs.

The NTSC DV template creates 720x480 at @ 12G per hour of video. "Uncompressed" is about 10 times the size. Is there a serious quality difference? I can't seem to see much difference in the settings.

I'm currently slugging an FX miniDV into individual clips. I was using the "uncompressed" setting, not realizing the size difference -- until I ran out of disk space about 1/4 of the way through the process, because my 220 2 - 10 second video clips were taking up 27 Gigs...

Isn't NTSC DV 720x480 good enough quality to work with? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

If your source is already DV, then you gain nothing by saving it to uncompressed. You only preserve quality using uncompressed if your source is uncompressed. When going from DV to DV you end up with a bit-for-bit copy so there is no loss at all.

Thanks, Kelly.

So anything I "capture" from miniDV stays in its original quality by using the NTSC DV? I'm assuming that the only thing then that benefits from "uncompressed" is an original render (like After Effects, animation, etc.)
