I have a Sony camcorder with built-in XLR inputs. However, it seems that there is much more noise than on my dedicated DAT machine. While using XLR lets me connect professional microphones without having to sync the video & audio, I believe that syncing is the best way to get the best possible sound.
I'm not sure that the audio quality of a DV tape is the same quality as a professional DAT tape from Maxell or Sony, for example.
Is this true? Also, when I encode to MPEG2 with MainConcept I get a weird background noise sound (high-pitched). However, when I delete the audio stream, and then insert a WAVE file into Vegas, then render, it is PERFECT.
