Quality Problem

I have a big problem with quality. When i render as avi and xvid codec i get ugly quality and small file size. when i change settings a little i get really nice qual. but big file size.
can anyone plz tell me some settings how to change that. iam currently working on some movie and its 10 min long.
i really need nice qual. with acceptable file size.

Its the age old tradeoff. Higher quality = larger file size. Smaller file size generally means a reduction, sometimes very noticeable, in quality. Be more specific as to what kind of project you're working on, then I bet you'll get a bunch of replies.

For example is your project for the web or are you making a VCD or DVD, something else?

Give us more an idea what you're doing and how you plan on playing back the finished project.

The best quality will be from uncompressed files, but they are large is size and with computer below 1G(cpu) my have difficulty do display. You can achive smaler size, but with some frames cut in MPEG.I would recommend do the uncompress and then if you satysfi with final-convert to MPEG what will cut the size.In time you my want to do some change to the project and if you want to save as MPEG, some of the frames will be lost.
In AVI DV standard I found the best.Bevare of longer clips when goes to sync video and voice. You my need to correct before rendereng.
