Question

I use Particle Illusion 3,and Vegas, and I was wondering how, or if it would be possible to take something you have in PI3, and it have a transparent background? So you could have something you made in PI3 ( a frequency wave for example ), over another video. Sorry if it doesn't make sense, I'm bad at explaining things.

Thanks for any help.

If you render it out of Particle Illusion as a uncompressed AVI then you can save the transparency in the video and be able to do that. You're going to get HUGE file sizes though. Another option is to put the effect over a solid blue or green color then you can key it out in Vegas and just have the effect visible.

Or... try Quicktime Animation format - which can have transparency as well and makes the files sizes MUCH smaller than Uncompressed AVI.

What would be a solid blue color to key it out?

Thanks for the suggestions

Well, here's the thing, if it's a Generated color it doesn't really matter what color it is, as long as it's far enough away from the color of the thing that you want to keep. So it could be red, blue, green, purple, yellow, etc... it's only blue and green on screens because DV uses green for it's luma and so it's better for keying out. and film uses both, I would suppose it just depends on what their wardrobe is for the scene / what they have or like to use.

so what ever color it is, just make sure it's far enough away from the color of the thing you want to keep.

Correct me if I'm wrong here guys :-)

Dave

EDIT - (if you want it however R=0, G=0, B=255 should give you a color that would be useable to key with)

I havent tried the uncompressed method ( wish I would have known ), but can say that using Chroma Keyer is tricky with PI and can have some unwanted results. Because many of the Particles are semi transparent, its easy to either remove some of what you wanted to keep or end up with a bit of a glow.

Just render to a TGA image sequence with transparency, then import the sequence into Vegas.

Works perfectly.

"using Chroma Keyer is tricky with PI and can have some unwanted results. This why a mask is used with CK first, then you can use sec color to boost the need colors, then CK again the unwanted color, then use another sec color to remove the previous color boost.
