Question about A/D converters ...

Sorry to bring this up to a top level thread but I am hoping someone can help here ...

Everyone seems to point to the Canopus ADVC-100 A/D converter and Sonic Dennis (I think)pointed to the proMAX DA-MAX+ for "High end" work. I have the Hollywood DV-Bridge Hardware from Dazzle ... Is there an appreciable difference in these units ?? and if so what am I losing with the Dazzle ?? Will I really get less quality on my captures ?? If so I am willing to switch if the cost is not to high ...

Thanks

I've got the Sony DVMC-DA2 unit. I'm not sure if there's a really noticeable difference between that and the Dazzle, however, from reading these forums it would appear that most of the time the Dazzle unsatisfactory in performance (dropping frames, refusing to connect, etc.) whereas most of the time the Sony & Canopus units are "plug & forget". My Sony unit just sits there and does it's job perfectly every time. People using the Dazzle report near endless frustration.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ... interesting ... I have had no problems on either of my machines, My Area 51 from Alienwere and my portable (although the portable is a little week and I had to go to an external firewire drive to make it render) ... I guess I have been lucky ... but I still would like to know if anyone KNOWS if there is a visual differance in these units

I just got an email from canopus announcing a new version of advc-100 called the advc-50. Its about $100 less... don't know what the difference is beside the price. Guess I'll go check it out.

Looks like the Canopus ADVC-50 is an internal unit and does not have an analog output. I use the analog output of the ADVC-100 to connect to a TV set when previewing with Vegas Video...works great...well worth the extra $100

Still have not checked it out. No preview on the TV would be a bummer - I use mine all of the time.
