Red 3GL is all you need. LTD will be a very small SUBSET of Red.

I asked Boris about this some time ago (a few months ago), and the sales guy at Boris told me that Red does everything that Graffitti and BorisFX does. It's basically their super set of everything.

It is my understanding that its' competition is Adobe AfterEffects.

I'll tell you what though, they are having some serious crash problems (BorisFX 7) and until this is resolved, I would not buy anything else from Boris.

I already had a no response (after a week or so) from thier tech support. I tried to resubmit it tonight and their web site isn't working at the tech support side.

The sales side is great...however, I have yet to get a response from Tech Support. Their forums are completely uncomprehensible. Just take a look.

BorisFX is crashing Vegas 4 and 5 HARD. **It even crashes in their own stand-alone keyframer.** (Vegas is completely out of the equation.) This only applies to some of their presets...not all.

There is absolutely NO WAY I would fork out the money for Red unless all worked perfectly...and it doesn't.

I have a pristine system; no issues anywhere on anything...except for BorisFX 7. In fact, the only Vegas crashes I have ever had have been due to Boris. I have multiple backed up disk partitions and can (and do) recall them as needed and make tweaks. I really think I have a prefect system.

Their interface (Boris) is awful too, but that's just my opinion. AfterEffects isn't much better.

I have had no issues with Graffitti 3.0.

Thier stuff seems to be pretty powerful; does a lot, but that's no good when is crashes your NLE host...without saving your project...

Kentwolf, I use RED 3GL with Vegas and it is pretty rock solid, no crashes at all.

What sort of problems are you having perhaps I can help

Whenever I open any BorisFX settings that involves text, if I try to edit the text via opening the Face, all crashes hard.

When I try to open and edit text in the same setting in the stand-alone keyframer, it crashes there too.

I have no idea why.

If you had any way to help would be most welcome.

It is rare that I have any issues at all.

I am using Grafitti 3.0 and BorisFX 7.0.

(Note: I tried disabling the OpenGL settings in BorisFX, reducing my color depth, and turning off (video card) hardware accelleration...the setting "scale-color1TextFill" crashes 100% of the time when attempting to edit the text in the stand-alone keyframer.)

Update: I just installed the demo of Red3GL and the text opens to edit just fine. I tried it on the Rotating Blur Fade, which was the original crasher (for me) in BorisFX. Works in Red (demo), not in the FX 7, which I paid for. The issue is not my system. It's BorisFX 7.

Thanks!

Sounds like it, you have eliminated all the usual suspects. I have never seen the problem in RED

have you dropped a line to the guys at Boris, generally they are pretty good.

Hope this exercise helped is some way.

Oh yeah...been there...seen it all...I think... :)

Today, thier support page seemed to be working correctly, so I resubmitted the issue again.

I would think that it would get worked out.

From what I saw in Red, the only issue I saw was that it did not like to (standalone) render via the (seperate) MainConcept DV codec (2.4.4). It crashed on that codec.

Other than that, yes, it seems pretty smooth and has a more useable interface than AfterEffects...or so it seems. They just need to lower thier price.

Thanks again.
