i m ready to get a canopus advc-100 converter box, on sale $419cdn which is not bad. i m just wondering if any of you are using it with vv4 without a problem. what about the 1394 tv preview? on their web they mention there is a few 1394 cards cant get along with the advc-100(but i couldnt find the info on the web) i have a adapter 1394 firewire card, do you think it is ok?
thanks for the inputs :)

Dunno. We just bought a Canopus RES 100 turnkey that has zero open slots for a 1394 card, meaning we can't view Vegas output on an NTSC monitor. Sigh. Good news is it was boiught primarily for MPEG1/2 encoding. Bad news is you have a choice of Premiere 6.5, Canopus DV Storm or nothing.

i also look at the advc-50 which fits my needs. what i really want is, capture analog video and preview on tv via 1394. i dont know if it is worth getting a advc-100, it will be $100 less on the advc-50. this way i dont have to worry about my adapter 1394 card.
thanks again.
oops.........i just found out the advc-50 does not have analog output for external monitor. too bad :(

Go for the 100...I dicked around trying to figure out whether to go for the 50 or the 100 and once you get a taste of analog out to a monitor...you will be happy you did.

The ADVC-100 works most excellent with Vegas 4.0...I am using the ADS-Pyro card with mine and it really rocks.

thanks CuzinB
the only thing i worry about is the advc-100 + adaptec 1394 firewire card. hopefully they can get along. technically it should work fine.

Heard/read about a few problems with win xp after SP1 - may have been fixed, but if you're running XP, I'd definitely check the canopus forums to make sure.

Can't be sure about the price, but ecost.com has been frequently running it on their countdown page and has the Can conversion scripted to the product page. Also, Dealnews.com frequently lists prices on this from their MAC site.

FWIW, Samsung has a few cameras they were phasing out (might be gone by now, but if not should be cheap) that I think did the same thing, and the new cheaper canons specifically list the conversion built in so you can use the camera the same way you'd use a box. Bit more cash but you also get a camera.

I've got the ADVC-100 and am using it for capturing and external monitor playback with Windows XP Home with SP1 and Vegas 4 without problem.
