Question about CD Authoring

YesMaestro wrote on 12/14/2009, 8:06 PM
I have a singing recital that I videotaped. In addition to a dvd that I have to make, the client wants an audio cd as well. I know there was a thread a couple days ago about authoring a cd from the timeline, but what I need to know is when burning the cd, will the text that I put as the chapters for the dvd, be written to the cd as well? Or do I have to rename all 30 tracks? The client wants to put the cd into her computer and have the track listing come up instead of it saying Track 1, Track 2, etc.

I don't believe Vegas supports CD text.

For about US$112, Sony's CD Architect will do what you want - I use it regularly.

- edit - for some reason the CD Text does not seem to work in Windows Media Player, but I see the names come up on my car CD player.

Correct. Windows Media Player doesn't support CD Text either. It fetches display information from the CDDB. Weird, you'd think it would be more efficient to use information that exists right on the disc first, then only go searching online if it wasn't there. It's especially weird behavior for a company who a decade ago declared the internet thing to be a passing fad.

... and the weird thing is that if I have a series of mp3 files saved as data on a CD, or a thumb stick for that matter, then WMP happily displays the names of them all.

That's because those aren't AudioCDs and therefore don't use CD Text. .MP3 files contain id3 fields with that information and most players happily show it.
