Question about computer ID/registration

Kind of a strange question, but hear me out. I'm not a computer tech by ANY stretch of ANYONE'S imagination...

Am I correct in assuming that your computer ID is based off of multiple factors in your rig-- ie: hard drive, MB, etc.?

The reason I ask is as follows:
I'm slowly but surely building a new computer. I'm putting in a hard drive tray so that my wife and I can swap media drives between our computers quickly. Will having a different secondary (media) drive in the machine change the computer ID number? I'm concerned because SoFo's serial numbers are based (as memory serves) off the comuter ID number...

Thanks!
David.

I'm not an expert either, but I doubt it. If I recall Microsoft's registration id had something to do with the specific processor, the id of the hardrives, etc. As long as you're not changing the processor or installing a whole new drive, I doubt a removable drive would matter. Also, once you've got it registered (say Vegas and Main Concept in this case) changing the contents of a secondary drive or even installing a whole new secondary drive wouldn't matter. The only time you'd have a problem (if you changed the actual hardware in your machine) is if you had to reload Vegas and reregister.

And if David Kuznicki hasn't registered 48 times in the last 2 months I doubt Sonic's registration programs are going to send over the robot enforcers :)
