Question about maximum recording length

Hello - ALL!!!

I have a few questions / comments...

I currently use sound forge 7.0b, to do live stereo recording. I track about 4 hours at a time. Then I stop the recording and insert regions at approximaterly an hour apart. Finally each is rendered as part 1, 2,3 and 4 etc. The reason for this is that that file size limitation is met, and I need small size files at a reasonable data quality.

Well now I am wondering how Vegas would handle this because now, the client is requested 4 track recordings as well, therefore I turn to Sony Vegas and ask if it can basically behavior similiarly and deal with file size issue in the same manner.

Thanks - any comments,
Bye,
Kevin

Vegas can record as many tracks as the CPU / Sound card can handle. 4 should be a piece of cake. Rendering regions no problem, doing it dozens of times today.

Bob, you've recorded 4-track-4-hour-long-recordings dozens of times in a single day? Unbelievable!

Heh, just pickin on you, I know that's not what you meant.

Well the need is still there, since I am considering getting an Alesis HD24, to be able to track many hours without gaps and other PC related faults. I always record many hours via Sound Forge and then save as wave64 or as broken up files, etc. But I was just seeing what abilities Vegas has to be able to handle this without dramatic loss of data and or file managment issues, etc.

My PC has plenty of space / 2 GB DDR ram and 3.0 Ghz processor.

Any comments?

Thanks,
Kevin

You have all the necessary stuff to record on your PC using Vegas. Don't waste your money on an Alesis HD24. If you have a large disk drive that is freshly fragmented, with a 3.0Ghz and 2GB RAM, you are better off on your computer.
