What file type are you starting with? What are the compression settings? Is it 720 x 480 pixels?

Are you importing your video from a DV or analogue camcorder? Are you bringing it in via firewire or USB?

What settings are you using for the AVI and the MPEG you create?

I am starting with an mpeg video from my camcorder. I am importing it from a DV camcorder using USB 2.0. I do not know what you mean by compression settings and I do not know how to change the pixels. Thank you so much for your help.

Is there any reason you're not using Firewire to capture?

Also, you should be saving as an AVI rather than an MPEG.

While MS3 can work with MPEGs, you're starting at a disadvantage and, if quality is an issue for, and DV-AVI -- ideally imported via firewire -- will give you the best quality/compression ratio.

(If, for some reason, your computer has a USB 2.0 port but not a firewire, firewire cards can be had fairly inexpensively and are easy to install.)

Earlier posts on this forum discuss the liabilities of using an MPEG for your source.

I don't think that my camcorder supports firewire. I have a sony dcr-dvd300. Is there any way that I can change the format to avi without using firewire? Thanks!

Oh, that's right, this is the DVD camcorder thing. You confused me when you said "DV camcorder". DV and DVD are not the same thing.

Have you tried something like the DVD2AVI program? You would use this program to rip the .VOB files from the DVD into .AVI files on your hard drive. It should include the audio into the .AVI files too.

Where could I find that program? Could I download it or would I have to go buy it?
