I've finally completed a video for our next Court of Honor (Boy Scouts), showing a fast-moving compilation of our backpacking adventure at Philmont. I've included some footage from footagefirm (great site!), but mostly photos.
The project is set to DV-Widescreen, and I went into Pan and Crop on every photo to set them to "Match Output Ratio" (or whatever it's called, match output).
After watching it, I do want to do a few edits, but I'm mainly concerned about the amount of shimmering in many of the photos. It appears mainly when there's a lot of foliage or rocks. The video looks good (with minor shimmering, not much at all) if viewing on an LCD monitor or television, but looks very bad when viewed on my rear-projection big-screen at home.
I'm going to look for Gaussian blur, because I remember that being part of one solution.
I'm at work, and it dawned on me, I used the default render settings this time - Best, but VBR with an average of 6000. For these very short videos, I usually change it to CBR and 8000. What do you think, is 8000 good (and would the CBR give better results)?
Also, I resized the photos down to something like 1200x900. When I get home, I'm going to try using the original photos to see if that helps with the shimmering.
Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
