Nope. The ASIO driver model is built around first come first served. I am sure you have probably tried this already....

If it's just a matter of needing vegas to record the soft synth, then it's possible to run VEGAS 3 and an ASIO soft synth/samp with the deltas.

I have two deltas here which work well now for all my ASIO synth recording, but "I think" this can still work with one Delta.
I also use a hard mixer for monitoring btw.

- Set vegas to use the WINDOWS CLASSIC WAVE DRIVER 1/2 in the options/prefs.

- Set your software synth/sampler to use ASIO driver, setting the inst output to SPDIF 1.

Note: 1 = 1st delta card, 2 = 2nd delta card
(synced via single spdif cable from spdif OUT 1 to spdif 2 IN...and set accordingly to mult card sync for both deltas in the Mpanel).

- cable from SPDIF 2 OUT to SPDIF 1 IN.

- set the ASIO app to output SPDIF 2 in the soft synth routing prefs (I love Native Instruments products btw).
**in the delta Mpanel, I have to un-mute my DELTA 2 spdif WAVEOUT channel to hear the softsynth.

- create a track in vegas, rec enable for SPDIF 1 input (why? because the soft synth is set to output on spdif "2", which is cabled back to delta spdif 1 INPUT).
I use spdif OUT 2 for the ASIO app output because if I chose the reverse, the rec enabled track would get audio from all tracks when I play/rec in vegas, rather than just the soft-synth...which is what we want.

I also have to use the "PROFESSIONAL" setting for both deltas on the mpanel SPDIF tab.

- play the soft samp and you should see levels, rec away.

delta drivers:

** I moved from delta driver "5.10.00.29x12 beta" (which was basically the solid 5.10.00.27 - but with added ACID 4 fix to driver) to the latest "5.10.00.31 (beta)" and everything is still just grand.
I really like the deltas now. It gives the higher priced setups a run for the money for sure. I used to be livid with Maudio back when their drivers were for shit...but now the drivers have matured and all is good.

** I set my DMA buffer size to 384 btw.

JoeD,

Why the move from 5.10.00.29x12 beta which is intended for Pro Audio to 5.10.00.31 which is (from the web site): "As this driver is intended for the consumer, HTPC (Home Theater PC) user base, Pro Users Please Advise, NO GSIF support or Less than 10ms WDM operation for this beta release."

Just wondering. The 5.10.00.29x12 is probably the most stable driver I have ever seen from M-Audio to this point.

OOops, sorry typo...

it is the 5.10.00.29x12 (beta) I've moved to.

Hey JoeD,
Thanks for the great advice here. I've cranked at you a few times so I want to thanked at you now.

In order to run MME, is it just a matter of ticking the box in the Delta Control panel (under the latency setting)?

Also, for those that are acronym challenged, what does MME actually stand for and how does it work diffently than asio? I'm trying to figure out some Delta problems with V4.
JohanAlthoff wrote on 4/30/2003, 12:26 PM
AFAIK, MME is short for MultiMedia Extension (someone please correct me) and is Microsoft's "old" audio implementation layer. The way it's written seem to bear with it an inherent latency somewhere in the range of 50-100 ms, which DirectSound usually, and ASIO never, has.

It is, however, rather stable and compatible, and along with DirectSound seems to be the solution that doesn't crave too much out of the soundcard.

Just wanted to mention that I received great support from M-audio to resolve the Vegas/asio and Delta card problems that I was having with 4.0. First they responded by email the next day and then when we couldn't solve it by email, they called me and stayed on the phone while we worked through various settings. Since it worked fine with 3.0 for two years, there was no reason why they needed to fuss with me but they took all the time to do it and resolved the issues of running a Delta 44 and AP 2496 simultaneously.

I would also like to mention that Sonic Foundry did their usual excellent job in giving suggestions and talking with M-audio to resolve the issue. I know people often complain about tech support but I wanted to post some accolades as well because its still possible to get service from these great companies.
