question for Sony DVDarchitect audio peak building

question... when i import a stereo file into Vegas it draws the peaks.. now this could be wav, mpg audio or ac3
(im specificlaly refering to stereo, not 5.1 (ill explain that in a bit)

now when i import any of these 3 into architect, why then does it need to be redrawn? Didnt vegas draw up an sfk file upon import? why not use THAT instead?
Understandably if its a 5.1 ac3 file, then DVDA would need to downmix the output and offer a stereo preview.. why though, arent we given the preview in 5.1? is it an efficiency thing?

Im jsut realy curoius coz ive just spent 40mins on a dual core machine to build peaks in vegas from mpg2 audio
then i had DVDA do the same thing to this non affected mpg2 audio.. basically its straight across transfer.. nothing done, nothing changed

thoughts?

I jsut think if we cold save time on the building peaks, then that would be handy.
As an aside, most people wouldnt now this, but premiere takes ALOT longer to "conform" audio and video so my question raised isnt a gripe, its a genuine query as to why peak building isnt transfered from app to app

I'll admit, i hadn't ever noticed this because i never import anything but stereo AC3 audio into DVDA. However, i'll also note that the same thing happens when opening a clip in Sound Forge. Even if Vegas has already created the .sfk file Sound Forge will recreate it if it's still open in Vegas. Close it in Vegas, remove it from the Project Media pool, and then Sound Forge is happy with the pre-existing .sfk file.

Weird.

You know how it is, if one file (the sfk) is "open" in one app and then gets written to by another app, very likely the first app will crash. It is cleaner to have the second app ignore the open file and create another.
But then, NoteTab Pro (which is one of my most used apps) will inform me that the file I have open has been changed by another application, do I want to import the changes or discard them? Very civil, I think.

There is definitley some fubar going on with peak building in V8 & DVDa. At least the HDV peak building problem where on 1 out of 5-7 m2ts the program locks up at 76% and never builds the peaks now seems to be fixed...

But this is what is happening. The second creation of the peak display does overwrite the already open file. It seems like it would be better in these cases to use the already existing file than to recreate it.

or in any case, run a proxy like setup as Vegas does with SoundForge (if both apps are open) then do an auto update on the fly (as in new take in vegas when "open copy in soundforge" is selected... )
