question IDE channels

Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out what would be the best setup, to connect 2 HD's, 1 DVDburner, 1 DVDrom. 1 HD holds my OS and the other one I use to capture my shootings. Both HD's are fairly new.
I thought it was best to keep the HD's, on the same IDE channel, and use the other IDE channel for the dvd-players. The idea is that the dvdrom, with a lower bandwith, will knock down the bandwith of the HD. But some places tell me it is not an issue anymore, with the new chipset's, to mix a HD and a dvdrom on the same IDE, when using these at the same time.
Help me out here. I'm confused. Which setup gives me the best performance, for video editing?

My setup works well.

System Drive Master IDE0
DVD Drive Slave IDE0

Capture Drive Master IDE1
Zip Drive Slave IDE1

I think the key thing to consider is that IDE will serialize within a single channel. So you would get better performance when you copy data across IDE channels than when you copy within a channel. For example, if you have your DVD Burner and render dive on the same IDE channel, you will serialize reading files from the drive with burning them to the DVD. If you notice in Dave T2’s set up, his capture drive and DVD burner are on different IDE channels so it can read and write simultaneously. (I assume he renders final output to his capture drive like I do)

Here’s what I have and I haven’t had any problems (i.e., no dropped frames during capture or anything)

IDE0 Master: System Drive
IDE0 Slave: Capture Drive

IDE1 Master: Pioneer DVD burner
IDE1 Slave: Zip Drive

I like Dave’s setup better because it optimizes both reading and writing across drives as well as the DVD burner. My Pioneer A03 DVD burner instructions said it had to be a Master on the IDE channel which is why I set mine up the way I did. I guess that's not true.
