There's a free script on the VASST site called DVDA chapter from Vegas marker but my guess is that it's specific to Vegas and won't work with another program.
Out of curiosity, why do you not want to do your MPEG-2 encoding from Vegas?

Very cool, that's what I'm looking for.

I prefer to convert my HD cineform master to SD MPEG-2 in TMPG Enc. 4.0. I find that I get better quality than using Vegas. It uses Lanzcos-3 to resize the video which seems to be the best.

Thanks, Marc

I sure hope it works for you.
BTW, are you the same Marc from the Maximizing HD to SD Quality thread over on DV Info?
I don't do HD yet but I found the discussion very interesting and informative.

Did you try using Cineform to resize HD to SD in Vegas? Cineform importer also uses the Lanzcos-3 scaler and retains the 4:2:2 colorspace. Then mpeg encode Cineform SD in Vegas. Check out the results.

Yes Mike that's me.

EB, good point. I have not tried that yet. I'll try it out on my next encode, thanks. I did not know Cineform uses Lanzcos as well.

Ok, I just used the script which worked great but DVD Architect seams to be broken.

I am trying to load the markers into DVD Architect but when I click the "Load Markers" button above the timeline nothing happens. What I mean is that it does not open up a box form me to choose my marker file. Any ideas? The button is active (not greyed out), I have the timeline selected and when I press the button it graphically goes up and down but nothing happens. I've tried it in Windows 7 and Windows XP without success.

Thanks, Marc

Marc, the button doesn't open up any box/window, it only loads markers.
Did you check your program timeline to see if the markers did indeed load?

Marc,

What about TMPG Enc. 4.0 and Windows 7 x64 ???

Is it worth to give it a try?? Or does anyone else have any experience running TMPG Enc. 4.0 on a 64 bit platform, especially WIN 7?

I just rendered a AVCDH 50i project to DVD mpeg2 50i), and the result loos soooooo soft. I have tried everything to get Vegas Pro produce professionla results. Nothing helps. Listening to your experiences just confirms that this downconversion is plainly lousy in Vegas.

I gladly will pay the price for TMPG Enc. 4.0 if it just brings me better results - and runs on WIN7 x64...

Christian

PS: Wonder when SCS scraps the Main Concept codec for something better...

Christian, take a look at the Maximizing HD to SD Quality thread on the DV Info forum as the posters there make a lot of recommendations for maximizing quality.

Christian,

TMPEG runs fine on Windows 7 and I like the quality of the conversions (It use Lanzcos-3 for resizing). I think they have a demo.

Mike,

No it is not loading the markers. How can it know where my marker file is without opening a file box? I am outputting my marker file from Vegas using the Vasst "export DVD Architect markers to file" script. Am I supposed to export it into a specific folder? I looked at the manual but could find nothing of value.

Thanks, Marc

Problem solved. Rob explained how it works in the DVD architect forum.

"It's not supposed to. It simply loads the markers-- created in Vegas when you choose the "Save markers with file" option -- associated with that video. Normally, DVDA loads this file automatically. The button is for if DVDA doesn't load it for some reason or if you have gone back into Vegas and created a new marker file.

How did you create the file that you're trying to load? If used the "Save markers with file" render option, markers should load automatically. If you used a script to create markers without rendering, the script should ask you for the name of the video file you're creating the markers for; make sure you enter the exact name of that file including the extension. This is how DVDA confirms that it's loading the right file. And don't bother trying to rename the marker file -- the media's filename is embedded within it.

Rob"
