Question on slideshow photo scrapbook style.

I am trying to create something similar to this video:

I don't have a problem with the Ken Burn effect but I am trying to figure out the scrapbook part where there are multiple photos on one scene. Would you guys do this by creating a large photo by cutting and pasting smaller photos(after adding white border) and then pan and zoom to each photo? Or could you achieve similar effect using multiple video tracks and overlay different photos onto a scrapbook background on the main video track and use event pan crop to zoom and rotate each picture to get the same effect.

I tried the multiple video tracks and it seems to be very time consuming and I can't quite duplicate the scrapbook style(I find it hard to make the multiple video track move as one). Creating 3 or 4 large photo collage and then pan and zooming would be much easier but I am worried about loosing resolution when zooming in to an individual picture.

If you create several large photo collage, what software do you recommend?

This video was likely created with After Effects or another program that lets you embed timelines within timelines. It would be very very difficult to duplicate the look of moving photos in a photo album in Vegas Movie Studio.

I did some more research and it looks like it can be done with VASST Ultimate S Pro plug ins for Sony Vegas Pro or using After Efffects. Waiting for Vegas Pro 11 and my half price upgrade.

You are correct, doing it manually with multiple video tracks and pan and zoom and tilt is a nightmare. What about the option of creating a large photo containing smaller photos and pan and zoom from one picture to another? Would I lose too much resolution?

You could do it by creating little pan and zoom sequences and outputting each as a little DV-AVI video segment -- then gathering all of those segments onto separate video tracks, with a large frame graphic over them.

But this is the kind of stuff After Effects was designed for!

This should do it at least for Vegas Pro. If it is a script it may not wok for VMS. Videowall

Another off the shelf item that you can buy is proDAD's Heroglyph. It is about $80 for the Rapid/limited version.

Yes, scripting extensions can significantly reduce the time spent on such projects (besides VASST there are Excalibur and Vegasaur), but you can do this relatively easily in Vegas Pro, using Parent Track Motion feature

How would I do this using Parent Track Motion feature? Doesn't Vegas Movie Studio 11 have this feature.

To make it appear like a collage of photo, I placed a generated media of gray background color on the main video track to simulate a background paper. I placed white borders on photos I intend to use on the collage. I place the first photo on one of the track above the main video track, zoom out on it until the white border appears. I then zoom out further and rotate it so it goes out on the left upper corner.

At this time, the gray background appears. I then place another white border photo(zoomed out) on another track and use pan and zoom to make it appear like another photo is on the grey collage background. However, it looks more like pictures in pictures than a collage of photos since I can't make all the photos move smoothly in the same direction.

It would be much easier to create a high resolution of a collage of 3 or 4 photos and zoom out and then pan to another photo and zoom in on it. I am going to try this route and see if I can maintain resolution since I wanted to be at least a 720p slideshow.

I ended up confusing myself trying to make multiple tracks child of one parent track and moving the parent track hoping the child would move along with it. Back to experimenting and testing parent track movement and parent child relationship.

Movie Studio supports Parent/Child Track Motion, but it doesn't have 3D track motion, so all compositing layers are 2D. You need Pro version if you want 3D movements, rotations etc.
