question on video

If I have a piece of video footage with an voice track, how can I go about switching to a different shot, but still having the same audio? Is this what the 'Video Overlay' channel is for? To rephrase the question, If I am giving a tutorial about how to sow shoes, and in the middle of a video event I want to switch to a shot of some other shoes, and still keep the audio track of me explaining how to sow shoes, how do I go about doing that? thanks for any help.

What you're describing is called an "L" cut -- and that's exactly how it's down. You place a video clip (with no audio) on the video track above the video that's playing the audio.

Yes, place the new video above your main video.

However the audio for the new video will still be there (someplace) You will need to deal with that. You can MUTE that particular audio track. You can delete that track, but before doing that you would need to UNGROUP that audio from its video.

Of course if the new video has little or no audio this may not be a problem.

dont put the video above the other footage, thats just double rendering you have to go thru, press U on the original clip to "ungroup" the video from the audio and delete the video and use your desired footage...if you want to do a do just a piece of the video, cut the video by pressing S on the sections you dont need, do what i said above

No, that doesn't happen. stacking events is a perfectly acceptable and very efficient way of making cuts. No point in all that splitting and fitting unless you've run out of tracks.
