Question on video filters

I would like to know how to get rid of the "home video" quality that, well, home videos have. First of all, I know that doing so requires more than just a good filter; it requires camerawork, good cameras, and probably something else. But still, what techniques can I use to minimize the "home video" quality using Vegas Video? Are there sets of filters I can use to do so, or is it in the rendering process, or is it really in the quality of cameras and lenses used?
Thanks for any help.

In my opinion the biggest thing you can do is to light everything properly while shooting. Proper lighting helps your image to be clean and crisp and keeps the colors true. Using a tripod to keep the camera steady help a lot, too.
