Question that SF won't answer

I want to be able to import VHS tapes into Sf Vegas Video and need a capture card that allows s-video in and record into a AVI format. I have called Sf TS and they simply don't know of any cards that I need. Anyone have a similar problem or answers to my dilema. I do still record weddings with a panasonic AG 456 Video Camera (Higher End) and eventually will move to DV but for the meantime, How can I capture as an Avi and edit. then print back to tape to hand to my clients. Any/All info would help.

Thanks Again!

The route that I went was to get a Maxtor OHCI compliant 1394 card and a Sony DVMC-DA2 media converter...the converter allows you to connect RCAs and S-Video the connects to your 1394 card...and when you eventually do get into digital video, you can hook your camera straight to the 1394 card...PLUS, you can use the DVMC-DA2 to preview to an external monitor when editing with Vegas...I was recommended the media converter by SonicEPM on this forum and it seems to be the optimum setup...

same here. The Sony DVMC-DA2 is the way to go with a firewire card.

around $300

Do you recommend the Dazzle hollywood Bridge for video captures

#1 when i am done with a project, will the sony card be the way to print to tape? # 2, where can i buy the Sony DVMC-DA2 media converter?

thanks!

the sony dvmc-da2 isn't a card...it's a little box that hooks to your 1394 card...it converts analog signals to digital signal (1394)...and yes, you can print to tape using the dvmc-da2...as far as the dazzle card goes, I think that a 1394 card and the sony media converter is a far more versatile solution...

Tech support is not really the place to go for hardware recommendations, but this forum is. I second, and 3rd the posts in this thread: Sony DVMCDA2 Media Converter box (has svideo i/o) and a 1394 card such as Pyro or SIIG.

ATI All-In Wonder Cards have Analog IN/Outs like you're looking for also, which you can inport/export to VHS and they also have MPEG encoders on them if you want to import in MPEG instead of huge ATI format. You won't need the little external box either it's ALL Included, thus the name.

Perhaps SF can correct me, but it's not that they don't know of any cards, it's just that they don't recommend any. That is my experience.
