Question to SPOT on book

I understand you are the author of the comprehensive book on Vegas, whcih I've been looking at in the book store. However, I have Screenblast MovieStudio 3a, which appears to be a modified version of Vegas (and for a lot less money). However, the little book that came with MS is not helpful on many things, as is also true of the Help screens. Such things as how to add a clip to the time line with out everything overlapping is not included in any of those sources of information -- the Screenblast forum seems to be the only way to learn how to really operate it, and that is piecemeal . My question to you is would your book be a reasonable guide to MovieStudio, understanding that some of the whistles and bells are not there or are only paritally operable (such as ripple)?

I don't know Movie Studio at all, having never even seen a copy outside of the box. If it's much like VideoFactory, then you'll get some benefit, but not a lot. The first 4 chapters of the book would be very helpful for you, and some of the audio and streaming will be of value, but the compositing and related info won't do you much good, I'm afraid...

Thanks for the reply, Spot. I may buy your book anyway. I was impressed by your explaining what's going on tehcniallly, not just "how to do it". The screens in MovieStudio look a lot like Vegas, although MS lacks some of the fancier controls. From reviewing the questions that come up on the MovieStudio forum (including my own), there is a fertile field for you to modify your Vegas book into an edition on to MovieStudio. I would buy it!

For now, you could download the Vegas manual and take a look at it. It might explain some of the things you want to know. And yes, Screenblast is very much like VideoFactory I believe. Probably more feature-rich.

I know you can open Video Factory and Movie Studio files in Vegas, and it's a great way to get associated with Vegas, and perhaps a book will be in short order on Movie Studio. However, I can't see anyone spending 45.00 on a book for Movie Studio when it's a 99.00 retail application that usually sells for less at a computer store....
I'm gonna have to go get a copy, I guess.

I'm going to take a look at the book again. Maybe buy it. Actually the price difference between the book and MS is closer than you think. I got MS for about $60 with a store rebate and a Sony rebate, and Borders is selling your book for $50. However, I like to learn about how things work, and it's not unusual for me to invest in good explanatory literature. Let us know, too, if you do decide to put out a book on MS (post that on the MS forum). As I noted, it looks like it could be partly a sissors and paste job since there appear to be a lot of similarities between Vegas and MS
