Greetings folks, I have a client with a tight schedule(and budget, !@#$%....) who will lecture for 1hr only and wants footage output to DVD and in hand ASAP. Client only wants basic white letter title, single camera and white letter credit close out, no music, no special effects. Whats the absolute fastest I can output to DVD using all the latest time saving devices such as quick capture, Laptop and Vegas 4. Any time saving tips no matter how small will be of great help!! Thanks. Sigh... (no matter how fast u work its never fast enough)!!

Well, depends on the speed of the laptop, but I bet in theory you could be done within 2 hours of the conclusion of the speech. First, skip the tape and capture straight to the HD of the laptop during the speech, that way you don't have to digitize the footage. Then it's just a matter of tacking on the title and credit slides (which of course you can build in advance in a vegas project before the speech.) That would only take a minute if you had the titles already done and ready to go. Next, render to MPEG2, and here's where the speed of your laptop comes into play. If you've got a crusin machine you can probably complete the render of both the MPEG2 video and AC3 audio in an hour and a half. Finally, burn to DVD at 2x speed, and 45-minutes later you're done! Total=2 hours, 15 minutes. Plus tack on some headroom, call it 3 hours for good measure. But like I said, depending on your hardware, it could be anywhere between 1:30 and 4:00.

Can DVD recorders do multisession? Perhaps it's not even necessary if you have some sort of video switcher. Take a stand-alone DVD recorder to the site, record the titles direct to the DVD, record the lecture direct to the DVD, then record the credits direct to the DVD. Close the disc and a couple minutes later you're done. I think this would be the second fastest method. The only thing faster/easier i can think of would be a DVD Handycam, but that would make the titles and credits a bit more difficult.
