Questions about Screenblast

I had bought Screenblast a few months ago but returned it unopened after reading some posts about it on other forums. In particular several people had mentioned that installing Movie Studio could cause problems with other video or DVD programs installed on your computer. Has anybody here run into problems like that?

I have a hunch that the posts might have been referring to problems specifically with the versions of Sonic MyDVD which have been included, and not with the Sony software itself.

Question #2. Does Movie Studio allow you to set chapter points to the nearest frame? Or are the chapter points not set in Movie Studio itself but in the Sonic MyDVD module? With both Sonic MyDVD 5.0 and ULead MF3 you can set the chapter points only to two specific frames for each second of video. (ULead VS7 allows you to set the chapter points to the exact frame you want.)

Question #3. Can you use other programs besides the included version of Sonic MyDVD to author and burn DVDs from Movie Studio?

--Thanks!

Perhaps those reports were talking about the MyDVD program that comes with Movie Studio itself because I have never heard of Movie Studio causing any problems. I’ve been using VideoFactory (the predecessor to Movie Studio) and Vegas for a few years now and I have installed all sorts of DVD software over those same years and have never had any conflicts (athough I have never installed MyDVD)

No. Movie Studio has nothing to do with chapter points. Your chapter points are set in your DVD authoring program and MyDVD doesn’t allow you to set chapter points from Movie Studio AVI’s at all. Setting chapter points is a pretty basic function that MyDVD is missing. It also has lots of other limitations that other programs in its price range don’t seem to have. I would not recommend using it.

Yes, not only can you but I recommend that you do. MyDVD is a separate program from Movie Studio and while there is a button in Movie Studio to transfer control to MyDVD, you could use any DVD authoring program. Most DVD authoring applications will allow you to use either an AVI file or an MPEG2 file. This means you have the choice to render a DVD compliant MPEG2 file from Movie Studio and use any DVD authoring program you like. Take a look at Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3. It’s had some nice features at a reasonable price ($49) and you can download a fully functional trial to use for 30-days.

I had heard that MyDVD 5 DeLuxe demanded that Roxio be uninstalled before it would install itself due to problems with the Roxio packet writing software.
I had Nero 6 Ultra installed for some time, so thought this did not apply to me. After I installed MyDVD 5 deluxe, my PC Crashed. It then crashed and rebooted consistently every time I powered it on, sometimes more than once. I uninstalled MyDVD but the problem still occurred. In the end I uninstalled the Nero 6 InCD packet writing software and the problem went away.
Since then I have thrown out MyDVD 5 and received a refund from Sonic.
