Questions before buying.

Greetings.

And the first time for me on this forum.

I have on the official website of Vegas the version 19 and 20 while on Steam on 18 and 21. At the moment I am quite interested in the oferta which lasts until the end of May as regards Vegas Post.
I have three questions that I wonder before taking the software.

The first concerns the absence of the fact that it is not possible to make a monthly subscription to Vegas Post. Since I am interested in Vegas Image and Vegas Effects who know how to be from Hitfilm, I wondered if the absence of an annual subscription indicates the end of the collaboration between Vegas/Magix and Hitfilm/FXHOME for which in the future we will be more updates.

The second thing I wonder is if Vegas Effects is suffering from the same problems explicit in this
Videos that speak in practice of the same software:

The last question and if I have to buy a new license or just make up the upgrade as a licensee from Vegas Edit 20.

P.S. :
With Vegas Post I am also entitled to the cothens of the monthly subscription with access to the related services.

If you are an existing VEGAS user (not Steam), enable Newsfeed in preferences/general of your version and see if there's an upgrade offer for you. That can have the best pricing and what I would do if you don't need/want a subscription. No need to buy a new license.

I also see there's no subscription option available for Post. Why I don't know.

The video you posted doesn't work- what are the issues?

For the video, much of it is about problems with FxHome post acquisition and negative feedback from users.

While Hitfilm is editing + compositing, VEGAS Effects only has the compositing side as VEGAS is the editor. This video can't really cover the integration in VEGAS as it isn't about that. If you have specific concerns there might be other users here who can help with Hitfilm compositing and Fx in VEGAS.

To access VEGAS Effects from Vegas Pro (POST version), it's just a matter of R clicking the video event on VP's timeline and from the context menu that opens selecting "Edit in VEGAS Effects". HitFilm Pro used to be able to be accessed from a video event on VP's timeline in the same manner, but the last HitFilm Pro version that was able to be accessed from Vegas Pro was version 2021.3, the version I still have installed. I rarely use HF anymore because it is clunky, not as intuitive as it should be, and 2021.3 doesn't support HEVC media - and it looks like that is still the case in VEGAS Effects.

I had a gut feeling that things had gone downhill since the Artlist acquisition, but from the YT video hadn't realised the extent of its fall from grace.

I really only used HitFilm Pro for compositing tasks which I did in HF standalone and just rendered the project (usually one shot only) and then imported the render into VP. In recent years, I haven't done as much compositing that has required the use of HitFilm Pro. One FX in HF (and thus VEGAS Effects) which is very good is 'Neon Path' but is a bit difficult to get the result right (for me anyway). One very good feature in HitFilm Pro was its Batch Rendering where a whole lot of individual video events (selected by in-out points) could be queued for render and then rendered as a batch - each render having a different file name. It looks like that can still be done in VEGAS Effects. While only one VEGAS Effects can be open at the same time, an event processed can be sent to VE's render queue and then VE closed down. Opening VE again with another video event, the previous video event in the rendering queue remains in place. But this is only useful if you want to render/export to separate video events in addition to directly updating video events on VP's timeline.

I think it is absolutely possible. Vegas Effects and Image have been stuck in 5.0.2 for a long time. So, maybe Artlist has already finished working with Magix/Vegas? That may be why it hasn't been updated for so long.

I wouldn't be surprised to see FXHome's products themselves disappear from the market soon... Artlist almost seems to be purposefully killing them off.

Artlist is a complete joke of a company. Of course they are gradually killing off FXHome line of great software and plugins, i expect for it all to disappear soon.... Artlist FXHome collab with Vegas Effects and Image is of course seems to be ending, i would be glad actually, cause then a more productive path may can be put in place for them.....Artlist has no vision!

Reyfox wrote on 5/17/2024, 7:25 AM

I knew when Artlist took over and made a bunch of promises, that nothing would happen. I have Ignite Pro 5. They made promises of "wait and see what is next!". Nothing. Also, I have HFP 2021.3. Never renewed after that. HF is dead. All the wonderful people moved on. It was amazing what they were able to produce with that software.

But like others, where does that leave Vegas Post and will there be a replacement of Vegas Effects/Image. I do have Happy Otter Scripts, so can send my images to my photo editor (another dead piece of software Paintshop Pro 2023) and back. And honestly, compositing in Vegas does most of what I need. Still, it's a feature that "pro" editors must have.

HF is dead

Yes. And there's been nothing HF related on YouTube for around 1 year.

another dead piece of software Paintshop Pro 2023

It's interesting that you should write this. Corel has traditionally released the next PaintShop version in Q3 each year - but not last year. My current version is 2022 and I regularly get Corel offers to upgrade to PaintShop Pro 2023 at - now - what can only be described as bargain basement prices.

As for iZotope under Native Instruments, the upgrade price to RX11 Adv from RX10 Adv is just a fraction short of twice the upgrade cost as was RX9 Adv to RX10 Adv back in 2022. And RX11 Advanced's new features offers next to nothing advantageous for me. Further, I did a support request to iZotope more than 2 to 3 months ago about when Dialogue Match (only then supported by ProTools) would be supported in RX as iZotope had previously advised on their website was their aim. About a month after lodging that question, I got an auto email response from iZ apologising for the delay in responding - but no response at all since then. That is the end of any more iZotope purchases for me.

The two changes of ownership that have gone well - IMO - are the Vegas line of products moving from Sony to MAGIX. And SpectralLayers Pro moving from Sony to MAGIX and then onto Steinberg - version 11 is soon to be released (and version 10 is brilliant).

Apologies for going OT on the VEGAS Effects / HitFilm Pro comparison.

@Dexcon, when a company shuts down the user forum, that to me is an indication that something is wrong, and is a prelude to shutting things down. Oh, they' will continue to "sell" the product to get as much money as they can since it's just sitting on the server doing nothing. There are no updates or further development going on. And such is the case with Paintshop Pro. The last version was PSP2023, and that was released in the summer of 2022. The user forums were removed, so users set up forums to continue support/help for the many that still own and use the software.

I don't know how many copies of Vegas Post were sold, but having the integration with HFP was a wonderful touch for those that needed more in compositing and fx. It would have been wonderful if Magix had purchased FXhome, but I guess another video editor is something they didn't think that needed under their umbrella.

I wonder what would have resulted if FXHome and Vegas were joined together.

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 5/17/2024, 2:24 PM

@Reyfox If FXHome and Vegas were joined together, That i guarantee you, would have turned many heads and draw a massive interest from the NLE and VFX world.

@Dexcon I ditched Izotope line of audio plugins couple versions ago, due to the fact that at every new version they were becoming more like bloatware, consuming way too many system resources to handle their processing.

Native Instruments buying Izotope..... Nikon buying Red....... Artlist buying FXHome....... STG buying Avid..... So odd seeing so much companies, with such great tools, simply get bought out, only to become a shadow of their former selves.

Umm...considering recent developments, that was never a possibility.

Reyfox wrote on 5/17/2024, 3:52 PM

@VEGASDerek I don't know the behind the scenes dealings between Magix and FXHome before the Artlist takeover. But it was a thought how things "could have been if...."
