Questions Before I buy??? Please Answer

richtrot wrote on 2/9/2000, 4:24 PM
I am about finished recording and mixing down my first
little project. I use CWPA 9.0 and now I am ready to record
to CD to send to a duplication House. I have used Adaptec's
Easy CD Creator but we all know that It is not adequate for
professional recording master. Its Tax refund time and I
want to buy CD Architect. But I am concerned if it supports
my drive. I have an Acer CRW-6206a and it has IDE(ATAPI)
interface(2x Record and 6x Play).

Ths SF Site States that it supports the ACER CRW-620 SCSI-2,
CRW-622 ATAPI and CRD-1420C SCSI-2 drives.

Question 1.

Is SF implying that it supports CRW-620*** models(Plural) or
is it just one model CRW-620(Singular)?

Whats confusing to me is that I searched the Acer site and
only one 62? model can be found, which is the model that I
have (6206a). And whats more puzzling is that the model 620
is reported to be SCSI-2 interface by Sonic Foundry and my
6206a is ATAPI. Did SF misprint the interface type.

Question 2.

If my drive is not supported then do they have a generic
driver that will work with any IDE CDRW Drive?

Question 3.

I am going to download the demo copy when I get home. Is
there a way to verify with the demo that it will record with
a particular recorder. I know that the record option will
probably be unavailable, but can you at least test the CDR
in the Demo. I am just trying to be sure that I don't spend
$300.00 on something and then find out that I have to spend
another 2 to 3 hundred on hardware to us CDA.

Thanks

Richard.

This isn't really the answer you're looking for, but you can get
CD Architect AND a compatible CD-RW drive for less than $200.

I bought a Smart & Friendly CD SpeedWriter Plus Internal ATAPI drive
for $144 at Christmas that came bundled with the full version of CDA.

I just looked it up at a couple of online stores - it's a few bucks
higher and out of stock now, but it might be worth waiting for.

Check out the specs at these two stores:

http://necxdirect.necx.com/hai/prod_page.html?
key=0000136382&nonce=guest (this should be a single line - no spaces)

and/or

http://www.computers4sure.com/product.asp?ProductId=52833&

Smart & Friendly doesn't manufacture their own drives. They are made
by other companies and branded for them. The CD SpeedWriter Plus
Internal ATAPI is actually manufactured by JVC.

It's a lot cheaper than buying CDA for $300 alone - the manual is
a .pdf of course but I don't think you really need a printed version.

Good luck on your project!

I went out during lunch and bought the Smart and Friendly CD
TurboWriter RW it is a little faster on writing and it included CDA
and a lot of other software. Did you get the Diamond Cut Restoration
tools also. If so are they really useful.

Thanks so much for responding so quickly.

Yes, I got Diamond Cut tools with mine. But to be honest, I haven't
made any music CD's yet. I've been using my burner to archive files.

I have a live concert that I am going to be burning from digital tape
to disc soon, so I'll be giving all the software a good workout. And
if I ever get my old turntable working I'll be burning some out of
print LP's to disc too. So we'll see!

I looked at the Diamond Cut and I was very impressed with the output.
The layout of the program wasn't so hot but I loved the sound that I
recieved from the presets
