quick question about properties

Just wondering, when you set the project properties to "field order: lower field first" does it then make any difference which choice you select for "deinterlace method"? Seems to me it shouldn't as Vegas isn't deinterlacing anything, right? From my tests so far, it doesn't seem to make any difference if I choose "blend fields" or "interpolate fields" so long as the field order is lower first.
Am I right?

Vegas only deinterlaces if you choose deinterlacing in the render dialogue too.
Blend fields will use both fields to make a progressive frame.
Interpolate uses one of the both fields to make a progressive frame.
Interpolate methods makes sharper videos (movements).
Blend method makes more natural movements (as it keeps some of the motionbluring by keeping infos of both the fields).

Interpolate method is the perfect method to choose when extracting a single frame to use as a still.
Blending is better choice for videos with movement in there.

taliesin, thanks for the help! Guess I am right that it makes no difference what deinterlace method you choose so long as you choose lower field first.
I appreciate your help about blended/interpolated fields. However, I was told to use interpolated with material that has lots of motion rather than blended. Guess it doesn't matter too much if I stay with my current settings, though it does bring up some questions:
Someone posted below and I have read that most Dv cameras shoot both fields togeather (progressive) but the interlacing is added somewhere along the line- if I understand this poster's remark:

"Remember that digital formats store the whole frame and then flag how to spew it out. (all of them AFAIK)"

Now, does this mean all material is captured in the camera as 60p? 30p?

If it's 30p then what does the pan DVX100 do at 30p that all cameras don't do naturally?
Also, if all material is 60p then does this explain how vegas is able to run the "filmlook" script from the sundance media site where the upper track is set to lower field first and has 80% opasity and the lower track is set to upper field first?
I don't get it and wish there were one really up to date site that explains all this as all the books I have on the subject do not.
