As long as you have a recent version of the QuickTime player on your system, the answer is yes.
It can't export to that format but it can read it.

Are you saying the most recent Quicktime includes the ProRes codec? If so, you would need 9.0d or 9.0e to work correctly with the newer QT.

In the past, the ProRes codec has always been a separate download afaik.

The ProRes codec has been included in the standard QT implementation for over a year. I know for a fact it's been there since 7.6.0.
