Quick::Video audio: Static WITH SpeechFix?

Can anyone recommend a fix for the following:

I received an 8MM tape with footage to include in a dedication presentation.

In that captured footage, there is slight static *with* the audio, that meaning, when he speaks, slight static is intermingled with the speech. If he's silent, there is no static.

I have not had this issue before.

Can anyone recommend a fix for this?

I do have Sound Forge 8 and noise reduction, but again, I have never had audio like this.

Thanks!

A couple of possibilities you will need to investigate by zooming in on the waveform in either SF or Vegas till you get to the sample level. If the waveform is clipped, i.e. flat tops, then the clip restorer in Noise Reduction may help.

If instead of flat tops the waveform starts toward clip and suddenly heads for zero there is no other choice than hand editing the waveform in SF. I recently had to fix up about 1200 samples like that. Real tedious but in the end worth it. If anyone knows of a plug for that please let us know.

Right clicking on the audio event in Vegas and selecting open copy in SF is handy as it keeps the original intact and allow use of the "T" key to compare takes.
