QuickTime and WIndows XP

I recently upgraded to a new machine running Windows XP. I loaded VegasVideo to edit some QuickTime movies that my digital still camera spits out, but VV complained that QuickTime was not installed. I then downloaded and installed QuickTime and VV worked like a champ. However, none of the renderend videos would play because the standalone QuickTime player would not start (and the web plugin is hosed up too). I noticed on the QuickTime web site that a lot of people are having problems getting QuickTime to work with XP. It seems that everything was working fine for people until a couple of months ago, so the thought was that a certain XP service pack (or related update) is to blame.

Most of the discussions at the QuickTime forums dealt with Mac issues so there wasn't a whole lot intelligent Windows dialog taking place. I was wondering if anyone here has eXPericenced this QuickTime problem, and if so were you able to resolve the problem.

Thanks,
Don Sanders

I haven't used QT much on XP, but thus far QT 5 has worked fine. I did have to download several more components to play certain movies (like Quicktime "authoring.")

QT5 works fine on my XP Home machine. Make sure to install QT Authoring.

If you go to the QT web site you will see that a lot of people are having problems with QT5 and Windows XP. Its not a matter of QT playing a particular clip, its that QT won't even start. For me, I usually just get an outline of a box drawn on the screen when the program starts - you know the box that prompts you to upgrade to the pro version. Then sometimes I get the outline of the program displayed with the menu bar text - no backgrounds, at all.

However... After installing QT, I have had no problems with VV being able to edit QT clips. I just can't start the QT standalone player (or web plugin) to view them. I just thought that VV users should be aware of the problem.
