Quicktime bug is back!

MTuggy wrote on 12/27/2006, 10:38 PM
After installing Vegas 7c all was well until I installed the latest QT update (QT 7.1.3). Now when I open a project with an MOV file in it it crashes.

I read on an earlier post that downloading some authoring tools free from Apple.com would fix the proble with the Vegas 7b bug when it occured but I could not find such tools on the apple site. Any links or other suggestions to fix this bug?

Here is the error message:

Is there any word on this crash? I am getting this same crash with Vegas 7.0d. I have Quicktime 7.1.3.

I now cannot open a project I am working on.

Thanks

I would try and roll back to an earlier quicktime.
I have heard that another NLE also have problems with 7.1.3

You can get 7.1 here:

Quicktime replacement work?

I had a Quicktime error yesterday; not certain if it is exactly the same or not (didn't save the log), but Vegas would crash on a .tif or .mov in the timeline.

I uninstalled QuickTime, downloaded their latest installer and after the install I haven't had the error reappear. I was in a hurry & don't know if I even ended up with a new QT version or not, but it worked.

i didnt get a crach, but i did get a message telling me to upgrade my QT.. which i really dont want to do coz i hate the friggin format and all the crap that comes with it..
but V7 wont work with 7.03 (the version i have) so i guess ive got no choice..

I replaced it (re-installed) - did not work. I went back to an older version (6.5.1) and it worked. But I need the new version for some other projects..

It looked like the new version caused this problem.

Anyone else have this version of quicktime and have Vegas 7.0d work?

You really want the older versions of quicktime, and whatever you do, don't upgrade your iTunes and quicktime, even though installed versions/updater is calling for it. It'll blow up your QT abilities in Premiere, Vegas, and Edius. I wish Apple would quit this. It was so much easier when you could easily find QT, but now it's locked into iTunes unless you really dig.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm seems to work for Vegas as well.

QT 7.1.3 runs fine in my V7.0d.

Definitely do not do the iTunes version, at least about a year ago i mistakenly installed that and crashed a lot of things.

The days of "Quicktime" errors will end when Quicktime ends.

Must say I agree with that.
Maybe I'm wrong but I get the feeling that Apple's insistance that everything has to be in a QT wrapper is bringing them slowly unstuck. Panny's P2 system and Sony's XDCAM just don't seem compatible with the concept of a sigle file in a wrapper, be it .mov or .avi but at least on the PC based NLEs we do get choices.
It'll be interesting to see how PPro fares under OSX.

Thank you thank you thank you for this thread and this post!

I thought I screwed up my system last week, and didn't realise there was a known bug in the latest QT until I saw this today. Everything's fine again with V7.1.
