After my earlier post describing my frustration at the apparent lack of any improvement in preview speeds on Vegas 11 (64 bit) using my super-dooper-new Radeon 6870 bought especially for the purpose, I though that in the interests of journalistic balance I ought to post an update following installation of Build 425.
In short: it works! At least, it does in some cases. An AVCHD project with individual clip 3-way colour correction, and overall project level limiting, that under Vegas 10 could manage just 9 fps at "Preview Full" managed an almost constant 25fps - full tilt for PAL - on Build 425.
I say almost - it still showed a stutter at each transition even straight cuts but by and large it was much better.
Alas no speed-up on my project which used Sapphire Edge plugins, these apparently only go faster on nVidia cards, one of which I have ordered but (unusually for Amazon!) I'm still waiting for.
So my point is, kudos to Sony for a very fast update which made a big difference.
One caveat alas: I did experience a couple of crashes, one so bad it locked the entire PC up so that pulling out the power cord was the only reboot option
Regards
Dave
