I have installed several "Icy Dock" Removable drive enclosures lately, and was having a grand old time until I tried to install on into the first Dell computer that needed one. The removable drive sits in a case, that case slides into and out of a case that is supposed to be screwed into the main computer case. Only problem is, there is no place to screw it in the Dell. They use a cheesy spring loaded pop out cage to hold THEIR stuff, but when I try to put my case into it, there is nothing to screw it TO. The walls of their cage are 1/4 inch too far apart. and they don't have any screw holes or metal where the screw holes should go. I looked for rails, but hardly anyone has any, and none of them fit the Dell case and my removable case. I can't use their slide out cage, either, as it doesn't have any way of connecting up with my case.
Currently, my equipment is working, but just sitting loose in a hole in the front of the Dell case. I don't like this arrangement, as I don't think it is secure, and every time I have to insert or remove the drive everything slides around loose. It is only a matter of time until something comes unplugged and I have problems.
Any suggestions?
