There are two veg files on the sundance site, http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/help/kb that show how to create rain.
Rain is very good. Snow is "ok." Ulead's Cool 3D production Studio can make good snow....but it's a slow, uncompressed render.

Hope to see you on the VASST tour!

I created a snow effect a while ago using a few Vegas noise filters that comes pretty close to the real thing. You can check out a clip here

Here's a link to the .veg

Thanks for the tip! Do you know who the author is so that I can find the post w/o having to summage through everything to locate it? If not, I can look tonight. Again, thanks for the quick response.

Wax plugin for Vegas has particle effects with which you can create the snow effect.. checkout the sample "particles.veg" that comes with Wax for some samples. If you have a simple snow flake bitmap that can be used with Wax to create the snow real good.

Are your Boris Red can't do snow and rain? You might want to check again. Matter of fact you can do snow and have it collect on an object like your head!

For a cheaper tool try Partical Illusion.

Jason,

Can you talk with me about how you did it. I saw some rain with Boris and it looked ok but have had trouble understanding the interface and using it with Vegas. Thanks. You can email me at iwent2iu@comcast.net so that we can talk offline if you prefer. I would also like to learn more about particle illusion.

Another option is to use the good old windows media player (cringe). You can download a free winter pack from MS and it will do snow. Its not to bad if you don't want to spend money!

In fact with Wax 2.0 you can use the snow plugin of Windows Movie Maker right here in Vegas.
