Raise sound

I have a JVC SVHS to MiniDV deck. I captured a VHS video from the deck directly to the computer and the volume is low. I guess that is how it is. Anyway, how can I increase the volume of the track in vagas. What plugin can I use and keep in mind that I don't want to raise it so high that I begin to get hiss. Thanks as always.

I don't think anything special is required. When you load your video into vegas, you will get a video and an audio track. The volume on the audio track will be around mid-point. . . turn it up.

Right click the audio track - Switches - Normalize. For starters. DGrob

That worked. I normalized the track and it raised the volume up. Now how I get rid of the his without killing the sound.

I have done the same with normalize, then using the track eq audio effect and moving the high shelf point around till I eliminate the most hiss with out cutting out too much of the high freq of the track.

Since you are here the other big, big, big problem that I am having is that recording from a VHF tape gives me wow/flutter how can I eliminate that. When I raise the volume up on the track it is more pronounced.

The Sony Noise Reduction tool for Sound Forge, Vegas, and other Direct X hosts works wonderfully. It's pricey, but very valuable. Will easily remove hiss with no trouble. If it's a moving hiss, such as camera movement in a room that has lots of environment noise, then it's not so easy, but this tool really rocks.
