RAM preview

Just wondering what my 'ram preview' should be set at. By default, SF sets it to 16megs, but when I installed spicemaster/spicefilters, they recommended setting it to 0. I have a 1 gig of ddr ram running XPpro on a AMD xp1800. Vegas tells me I have up to 895megs available. The reason I ask is often times when I'm editing I get stuttering/jagged transitions, actually sometimes I'm not able to see the
transition(s), even in draft(auto)?? Any suggestions? Is this a system issue or a Vegas issue? Thanks in advance.

with 1 gig RAM IMO set ram to 500 mgs .. some 3rd party FX require RAM preview be turned OFF so they will tell you to set to zero ...

can you drop a DV clip in V time line and play it back at 29.97 ?
full size ? at best/good/preview/draft ..
1/2 size at bestgoodpreview ?

Yes, I can. Transitions seem to be the issue more.
