random beeps on playback

I have just installed Vegas 5. I used to have version 3. When I load a previous .veg file the audio plays back with random beeps about every 4 seconds. I can take the same file and play it back in version 3 with no beeps. I also have Sound Forge 6 and Acid 4. No problems with any of those. Plug-ins work, everything else seems to be fine.

System:

Pentium 4 2.2Gigahertz
512 Mb Ram
60 Gig System Hard Drive
80 Gig Firewire external Hard Drive
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
M-Audio Delta 66

It sounds like you haven't registered your serial number for Vegas 5 yet. Those beeps are part of the demo mode. They'll go away when you enter your version 5 serial number and register it.

I was online when I installed and registered. The program prompted me for my serial number (first page of the quick start manual). I followed the instructions and chose "register online"
How would I know if Sony did not get my registration?

Anyone else experience this?
Should I try to register again?

I'm not sure if this will fix your problem, but I would try running the plugin migration tools located under your START MENU>PROGRAMS>SONY>UTILITIES.

I had a similar problem, mine was caused by the Express EFX I had used on tracks in a earlier version of Vegas. I went from 2.0 to 5.0. When I opened the older tracks in 5.0, I got beeps and such, I went in and removed Express EFX that I had put on each track. Express EFX shows as a demo in my Vegas 5.0, thats why all the beeps, I just dont use those anymore.

Thanks for the suggestions. I re-registered. Then, I tried the migration tools . . . but I only clicked on the "copy sony from sonic foundry" choices. Still no change. I have not yet tried removing the express efx.
I'm still trying and welcome any new ideas.
