Random frame inserted into project?

This is an odd one that happened last night - maybe related to the "black frame" issue, but maybe not. See what you think...

Issue - a single frame (from a .png file) is inserted into the middle of a DV event, which was previously rendered as a sub-project, and inserted into the main project

Let me explain further. I have a project, almost complete, about 20 mins long, comprised of a mix of DV, stills (mostly .png, with some .jpgs) and music.

Let's call the main project A. Inserted into "A" are several events (sub-projects?) of rendered DV (B, C and D). Event B is where the problem is. In this subproject (a unique .veg file), I took about 3-4 mins of raw DV, sped it up 4x using ctrl-drag, added a few stills (call them 1, 2, and 3) with a camera snapshot effect, and rendered it out as a new DV-avi. (Just so you can get a mental picture of it, it's a large family group photo - I kept my camcorder running while everyong was getting into position, and did 3-4 "snapshots" with a camera click)

I then opened my main project A, and inserted this newly rendered event B into the appropriate timeline location, add a clock-wipe transition at the head and tail, save it, and review the entire project. When it gets to this event B, in between still #1 and #2, where there is only the "sped-up" video, I see an unwanted flash. I stop, and step through frame by frame (using ALT-arrow), and low and behold, there is a single frame from another still (still #4) inserted into the middle of this event! This still #4, IS used in another location in the main project A, but NOT even in the media pool of subproject B. I expand the tracks (still #4 is not on a rogue track), and the only way to isolate it is to expand the timeline to the sub-frame level, and step through frame by frame... I think back a week or so, while working on the same project (at a different point on the timeline), and remember an almost identical situation with a random frame (from a still) in the middle of a DV event.

I say to myself, "self, no problem, like last week, split event B in two places, delete the offending frame, plus a frame on each side for good measure, and stretch one of the two halves of event B back together", which is what I did. Play it through, and once again, the offending still #4 is BACK in the event! Repeat - same results. WTF? I open subproject B, play it through in Vegas AND play the avi in Windows Media player - No offending flash or extranious frame in either.

Now (back to the main project A) I delete both halves of event B, leaving the original hole in the timeline. save, close all instances of Vegas. Re-open project A, re-insert event B and the same transitions at head and tail of event B. Play through - NO random frame flash. I'm happy, but concerned, and of course, curious...

Has anyone else seen this? I know it's probably impossible to repro (at least consistently), but I'm just scratching my head as to what's going on.
