Random frames inserting

While editing video in Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum, I've noticed that I'm getting errors where random individual frames get out of order.

These individual frames will show as a flicker when you playback the video. When I first import video from the source, this doesn't happen. It's only as I edit, cut, and generally create my final project that these random frames show up. Most of the time it is a frame that is out of place (shifted) by only 1 or 2 seconds.

My solution to this has been to split the video and remove that frame, which smooths everything out. The problem is that this issue has gradually been getting worse over time. I'm now having to remove 5-10 error frames in a 5 minute video by the time I'm done with it.

Anyone know if this is a Vegas error, or maybe something to do with my graphics card?

I'd say the chances of this being an error with the graphics card are just about zero or less.

The most likely thing is the file format. What types of source files are you using? What format/codec? Where did they come from? How did you get them into your computer? Vegas does have some difficulties handling some of the more off-the-wall formats, but if we know what format you're using we can offer some advice on how to get it working more smoothly.

If the random frames occur only at cuts where two events meet, zoom in close and see if there is a gap between where the video events meet. If so, adjust so they meet exactly aligned to a frame boundary (with "quantize to frames" turned on). On some captures, this may necessitate overlapping (crossfading) the audio a bit if it is not precisely the same length, but this does not usually cause a problem.

Don't know if this particular random frame behavior is still a problem in your version, but it's worth a look-see.
