Random text flash

Hi, I have a project in Vegas that was all finished and I ran the script select from cursor and moved it to the right about 5 seconds (to get some black at the beginning.)

I had a bunch of texts that appeared with different transitions. Now when I play back the video sometimes just a random flash of the text in it's position will pop up, and then go away, and then the actual transition to the text starts.

It doesn't happen consistently, that's the thing that's getting me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you have ripple edit turned on? If so, which of the three ripple edit modes did you use? The third one can create all sorts of problems. Whenever you use ripple edit, make sure to first click on a single event, and make sure you do not have any loop region selected. Also, make sure that only one track is selected. If you don't do this, the combinations of event selection, track selection, and loop selection can cause totally wild and unpredictable results. And, if you do have multiple event/track/region selections with ripple edit enabled, and you then press the delete key, the universe as you know it will likely cease to exist in the next two milliseconds.

Thanks for the reply.

No I wasn't using ripple edit...just the "select from cursor" script where you can select everything...and then I dragged it all down the timeline. However, now after thinking about it, I really should have used ripple edit.

The flashing text is gone now...I messed around with it by shortening the text event duration and making the transition time different. I'm still not sure why it happened in the first place, but now it's gone.

I'll use ripple edit next time.

Actually, I was trying to recommend NOT using ripple edit.

Why? It seems if I do everything correctly then it should work fine. With the method I was using before, I had to re-position all of my envelopes- which was really stupid.

Thanks for your help.

This non-intuitive way of moving things around has persisted since version 2. It is part of the BASIC EDITING quirks Sony refuses to improve. Hopefully THIS time with all the complaining they will wake up and start making some REAL changes for version 7, but I doubt it.
