Rcording with micro problem with VMS platinum 9

What should I do to record with a microphone....
I select the sound a track... I select the recording button... I see the track meter... the meter works when I speak, but there is no recorded files dialogue box showing....
Audio device type is Microsoft sound mapper in preference., I select audio input....
what I am missing....?

You only mentioned one recording button. Since you see the track meter i'm assuming you clicked the recording button in the track header. Did you then start recording by clicking the recording button underneath the timeline, with the other transport controls like play, pause, etc.? The record button in the track header merely arms that track for recording but doesn't start the process.
