Re: Burning CD

Hello

We are trying to burn a vcd straight through vegas but doesn't want to burn correctly.

1. Burned as MPEG 1 --Worked no problem
2> Tried to do MPEG 2-- Started no problem but then about 60 % done the burn the disk ejects and message comes up saying 'burn complete no errors'
3. Put in DVD machine (VCD no problem on it for sure) and there is no sound and the picture is scattered and not completely burned.

We do not have a DVD burner yet. Plan on getting a LaCie external but concerned same will happen. Have LaCie external 160g harddrive by firewire. Love it.

Any advice re burning properly or settings would be appreciated.

Thanks
WilliamK

I think VCDs are MPEG1 only. SVCD and DVD use MPEG2, so it might be a format incompatibility thing.

Peter's correct, VCD is only mpeg-1.
Best formual I've found is to encode using TNPGEnc and author in Nero. With clean fooatage results are remarkably good.

Thanks for the replies

On the options bar I did try to do a NTSC DV SVCD. It didn't work. I will try to find Nero or other options (like Roxio 7 ( have)) but would like to keep everything in house if possible (that is to say sony)
Any suggestions about how to adjust settings to burn properly. What is TNPGEnc?

Thanks

That should be TMPGEnc

Apparantly vegas can only burn vcd mpeg 1 no svcd mpeg 2 or anything else for that matter without DVD archetect.

Can I burn MPEG 2 using Roxio or another program. I do not want to burn MPEG 1. I have roxio and cannot afford to buy anything else.

Thanks

I don't think Vegas or DVDA can do SVCD.

Vegas and DVDA can not do SVCD (vegas can encode - but not burn a svcd) - plus not all dvd players will play svcds (or vcd either in truth, though most will).

If you are burning a CD - you must use the VCD specs as found here(which means mpeg1 and 44.1khz sample rate and bitrate limited CBR) : http://www.videohelp.com/vcd

or burn a svcd as per next post

to clarify -- Vegas can encode a svcd, true enough ...

But not burn it -- though burning it in nero is a no brainer

svcd specs are here: http://www.videohelp.com/svcd

Thanks for all of the replies. I was able to burn with Roxio but definitely will check out Nero

Next step is buying an external LaCie DVD burner to get the utmost quality. Any suggestions on what rendering format provides the best quality on DVD

Thanks again

mpeg2

lacie does not make their own burners - no better than most others (but nice cases) ... the sony burners seem to have a lot of issues, but pioneer and even the benQ 1620 series are pretty good for burners..
