Re: Cleaning up Audio

Hi

For my project I have recorded into Vegas 4 a track from a very old vinyl single. Lots of scratches, etc.

I have a soundBlaster Audigy card but noticed that the recording volume was much higher than the playback although nothing was changed in-between. There also seemed to be some distortion.

Secondly, are there any FX within Vegas that may help in clearing the scratches and clicks/pops, etc?

Cheers

Think I've solved the distortion problem. The line-in volume accessed from the Speaker icon in the sys tray was set to max. Reducing this seemed to resolve that problem.

Cheers all

To get rid of pops on vinyl, nothing beats Sonic Foundry's Noise Reduction plug-in.

Cheers.

Just spent a fortune lately on DVDA DVDre-writer and other stuff so does anyone know of a slightly cheaper way. I do have Cool Edit Pro but have never used it. Is this good enough?

Thanks

I use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 3.0(now version 2004 is out). I got it here in the US at CompUSA for $39.99 with a $40 rebate(That right - FREE!). The new version sells for $39.99USD. The Mpeg decoder for it is extra so I use ACL to clean up the .wav file and then use Musicmatch to encode the file to mpeg. You can use the .wav file directly in VV. I can send you a before and after sample if you want. Check it out at www.magix.com.

Your CD burning software may have pop/click cleanup software if you don't want to spring for the Noise Reduction plugin. EasyCD Creator Deluxe includes Spin Doctor which will do what you want.
