Hi

If I want to darken say just the bottome half of an event so that the viewer is drawn more towards watcjhing the top half how can t be done easily.

My thoughts are to make a square with the cookie cutter on the track above, set this to a dark colour then set it's oacity level to something like 50%.

Is there a better way of acheiving what I require?

Thanks in adavance.

You could go in photoshop and make a gradient from black to transparent (or just do it in Vegas) and then put that over your video layer to give it more of a smooth transition from black to transparent.

How would I do such a think in Vegas - would that be using a media generator?

Cheers

Yeah, there is one of the media generators (color gradient) that has a black to transparent, you can move the points around so that the black is at the bottom and the transparent part is at the top, I just tried it and it looks great.

There is a tutorial on using gradients for this exact purpose on the Sundance site. Gradients with various opacity settings or depth of color settings work create for passing various levels of video or blocking certain areas out for titles, etc.
