good morning all
i just shot some footage and there was a bright light that greatly hinders the shot.
for my edit i want to blur the light
i tried duplicating the track with cookie cutter etc. but when i do one thing to the duplicated track--it does it automatically to the other track.
i am still using vv3.0---but i will be switching in a few weeks to vv4
thanks in advance for your help
1) blur oout the light
2) how do i duplicate tracks so i can work on them separately
cheers

Hi sb,

Check that both tracks/events are not selected...

cookie-cutter should be good for this, you could try muting the lower track to see what's happening on the upper track that has the cookiecutter on the event.

When you copy a clip and then paste it you should get a pop-up menu asking if you want to make a reference to the original media of make a new copy. Click new copy, that might solve your problem

Hi sb,

Hang in there... a tut is forthcoming..

In the meantime:

Duplicate the event exactly above the original.
Make sure that just the upper event is selected.
Mute the lower track.
Drop the circle-center cookie-cutter on the upper event.
You should see the video in a circle.
Using the cookie-cutter panel, move the circle over the light.
Drop a blur or pixel FX on the event, so you have a blurry circle.
Un-mute the lower track and tweek the upper event to taste.

Hi guys, that's a great effect, I can use it to make "Crimewatch" face blurs. However, how do I move it about on the track as the persons head moves about?

I've tried track motion, but it moves the whole clip.

Thanks.

Use keyframes on the cookie cutter. Set it to smooth or linear.
