Re: It may just be my imagination...

Hi

I have had to do a complete re-installation of Windows 2000 and then, obviously Vegas 4. now, though, when I play back my project from the timeline the video looks squashed (people look thinner). I have not got widescreen set and it was recorded in PAL 4:9 and played back that way. I have checked the project's properties and all seems OK. I have three projects on file and this seems to afftect all of them.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be going on.

Cheers

Try right clicking on the preview window and select simulate device aspect ratio

You may have set it so long ago in prior to your rebuild that you forgot it was there.

You're right - so ling ago I forgot about that one.

This wasthe first time for a year that I neededto do clean install of W2K. I had a display problem which, lats time, was due to a fault in windows so I assumed the same again. Turned out the montor was on the blink. Got a new one now.

Please bear with me; Did I need to re-install the 3D plugin Pack for V4?

Also, I have a file called videofx10_bld139 which refuses to load telling me I need to have Vegas installed which it is. I used to have V3 side by side but decided I didn't require that any more.

One other problem if any kind person could offer advice as I am getting nowhere with ABIT or NEC.

I have installed the NEC 1300 DVD+-WR but windpws is refusing to recogise it. The MB is KR7A-RAID but I don't use the RAID. HDD0 (Bootable) is on IDE1 (ATA100) with HDD1 & 2 on IDE 3 (ATA 133) master/slave. I also have DVD ROM and CD-rewriter on IDE 2 master/slave leaving IDE 3 (ATA 133) for the DVD+-RW. But it is not being recognised. All connections have been checked.

If it needs to go on an ATA 100 port then I have two options, take out a device and replace it with the DVD RW or put a device on IDE 1 with HDD0. If the latter would the performance of the drive and, subsequently, the PC suffer too much. Drice 0 is ststem and programs ionly with drives 1 & 2 for video work.

Thanks for listening. You're great guys and girls.

Cheers

Maverick,

I think videofx10_bld139 was an addon for Vegas 3 giving more transitions and effects. This is now part of Vegas 4 so you won't need it anymore.

With regard to your DVD not being recognised ... this might explain it

Link to alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.abit article

Looks like you may have to move the DVD drive to another IDE channel until ABIT release a BIOS fix.

Mind you ... that thread in that link I gave was from over a year ago - probably worth checking ABIT website to see that you have the latest BIOS.

I know this might be a stupid suggestion, but what was your screen resolution before you reinstalled?

I noticed that some resolutions totally throw off the aspect.

Thanks for the link.

I'll post there. Mind you, I have tried to update the BIOS for a while now but all the support on ABIT's website is garbbage and the instructions don't work for W2K. Then I get an automatic response from them telling me it can't be upgrdaed without using FlashMenu which I have but there are no instructions on how to use it. I have emailed them several times without satisfaction:-(

Hmm, yes. Most BIOS upgrades need to be run from outside the Win OS - i.e. from a DOS boot disk. If you can't get hold of a DOS / Win9x Startup Floppy Disk then FlashMenu may be your answer - it will download the latest BIOS from the internet and flash it for you while you're still in Windows. ABIT have released a newer version (still beta though) - get it here http://fae.abit.com.tw/eng/download/dl_flashmenu.htm

Further to my earlier problem which was resolved by selecting Simulate Device Aspect Ratio.

I rendered my project (with chapter markers) as Video for Windows ( AVI) as suggetsed in another post to give a better quality when finally rendered in DVD Architec. I also have Stretch video... selected and the default PAL DVD.

When I play the resultant AVI file in, say, Window Media Player 9, the aspect ratio is, once again, wrong (similar to previous). Will this be rectified when finally rendered in DVD Architect or is there something else I have missed?
